Why I Unfollowed Everyone on Instagram – A 2025 Resolution
This year, I made a bold choice to unfollow everyone on Instagram and start fresh. It’s not just a digital detox—it’s a reflection of my larger goal for 2025: regaining focus, managing ADHD symptoms, and fostering a more intentional life.
Tackling Overstimulation and ADHD Symptoms
In a world where we’re constantly bombarded by notifications and content, my ADHD symptoms have been amplified. Overstimulation from social media was draining my mental clarity, making it harder to focus on what truly matters. Unfollowing everyone was my way of removing that noise and taking back control of my attention.

1. Less Is More
This isn’t just about Instagram—it’s a mindset for 2025. Simplifying my life, both online and offline, has become a priority. On Instagram, following thousands of people didn’t add more happiness.
If I don’t follow you, it doesn’t mean I don’t value or like you. It’s just me trying to commit to curating an intentional feed that helps me to grow.
2. Building Mindful Social Media Habits
I’ve always had a Love-and-Hate relationship with social media. I’ve been deactivating Instagram at least 20 times. I tried so many focus apps without real success.
Unfollowing everyone is a new strategy. And so far, it’s pretty impressive how much it eliminates the urge to scroll aimlessly. Indeed, there is no feed / no story / no Reels at all.
3. Escaping the Comparison Trap
No matter how self-aware we are, Instagram often leads to comparison. Honestly, when traveling the world, I could still fancy the lives of others… By unfollowing everyone, I’m breaking free from this cycle and focusing solely on my path.
4. Reclaiming Mental Clarity
Another key 2025 resolution is dedicating more time to reading and offline activities that bring me joy and calm. By creating a phone-free zone and stepping away from overstimulation, I’m prioritizing mental clarity and inner peace.
The ultimate goal: Open Instagram intentionally and only consume content that aligns with my goals.
5. Authentic Self-Expression
Without the pressure of others’ opinions or the algorithm’s influence, I can now express myself freely. Unfollowing everyone means I’m no longer tailoring my posts to fit an audience—it’s about sharing what I want, when I want, without overthinking.
For example, I’ve avoided sharing my thoughts on sensitive topics like the Middle East conflict, leftist politics, or green initiatives. Why? Fear of judgment from my own network. The fear of being misunderstood or sparking controversy held me back…
6. Breaking Free from the “Hot Girls Addiction”
Let’s be honest—Instagram also served as a way to keep tabs on old flames, matches, and past partners. Seeing their lives play out—new boyfriends, weddings, or just the occasional story view—kept me stuck in a loop of superficial connections. We were watching each other’s stories without ever actually interacting. What’s the point of that?
It’s time to move on. I’m striving to become a more mature version of myself, someone who’s ready to be a future husband and father. And being surrounded by “what-ifs” and “maybes” from the past isn’t helping me grow into that person.
Yes, we had our chances. Maybe the timing wasn’t right, or I lacked the confidence back then. But that chapter is closed now. Dwelling on those connections won’t help me move forward—it’s time to leave them where they belong: in the past.
2025: A Year of Focus and Intention
Unfollowing everyone on Instagram is just one step in a larger journey. It’s part of my commitment to address ADHD symptoms and create a better me.
If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed by social media or overstimulation, maybe it’s time to make a similar change. Let’s make 2025 the year we take back our focus.
